Hi friendly folks,
It’s been a hot minute since I dropped in to say hi, but I was feeling motivated to throw a pebble into the blogosphere today because of two individuals: my best friend Erica Paredes, and my assistant Alyssa Lapid.
Meet the culprits:
My best friend Erica Paredes, eternally no holds barred, tackles “Love Letters, Questions and Life Lessons” on her Hippie in High Heels blog.
“I’m not beautiful like you, I’m beautiful like me.” - Erica Paredes
Erica has been doing what she does best and blogging the crap out of her feelings, but with such brutally real commentary that the hardest of hearts have found validation in her writing. Truly an inspiration for being such a fearless “sharer”, she’s made me rethink my apprehension for publicly airing out current events in my life. We had a chat the other day about my inability to write candidly about my struggles, and her philosophy of sharing life lessons without preaching or positioning herself as an “advice-giver” were infectious. I’m still stuck with my sarcastic prose, over-indulgent musings about music, and triple-padlocked from public poetry, but maybe one day I’ll get to where Erica is, and be able to process and word my roller coaster via a medium that doesn’t require aliases or passwords.
Lucky us, my homegirl isn’t as guarded as me.

My darling assistant Alyssa Lapid, one of Manila’s most coddled fashion bloggers, is proof that soul, charm, and quirk are a wonderful combination.
“I want to be a DIY expert.” - Alyssa Lapid
She waits until the end of my monologue to ask if she can ask me a question. The answer is yes every time, and though she knows full well that it will be, she continues to ask if she can ask, with her signature head-cocked-to-the-side, wide-eyed, semi pout. Visually, people are becoming accustomed to how she’s not like everyone else in her midst, but it is her voice that asks to be heard; unassuming, resonant, rooted in deliberate thought, genuine, unfettered by the phases and fads of her popularity-driven industry. She has been a beautiful reminder for me to celebrate how unlike everyone else I am, prodding me to keep giving access to channels I am determined to cordon off out of insecurity and fear.
My angelic assistant for a little over a year now, Alyssa has been nothing short of a delight to work with - diligently trying to infect me with her Excel spreadsheet proficiency; an ironic pixie-like creature deftly navigating crowds in her platform wedges, train of her skirt in one hand, clipboard in the other. She likes pretty things, but is passionate about functioning things; communicates easily with images, but is most effective as thinker and speaker, and yes, as a “can I ask you a question?” question-asker too, of course, which in this day and age of Internet savvy know-it-alls, is ab-so-lutely refreshing.

I have a few things up my sleeve that I’ll likely be sharing with you here in the next week or two (including introducing you to more folks from my phone book, a pretty major career announcement, and the reincarnation of the Postura Project), so come through and hold me accountable.
Hope you’ve been well, and thanks for staying awhile.
